George J. Pratt: You’re doing great.
David Laroche: And he is—
George J. Pratt: Better than my French.
David Laroche: George J. Pratt he is with me to answer my questions. You will love this interview and I’m very glad to have him today. Hello George.
George J. Pratt: Hey, great to meet you David.
David Laroche: Me too. How are you today?
George J. Pratt: I’m doing great.
David Laroche: Perfect. We don’t have a lot of time so I will focus in my favorite questions. Shortly, I would love to know how you became who you are now.
George J. Pratt: Well, that’s a very good question. When I decided to be a psychologist I thought, “OK, I want to do two things.” And I have. When I started out I had started working with people to help them solve their problems and heal anxiety, depression, panic, etc., interpersonal problems, and then I wanted to start working at the same time with people to help them to excel and be their best. So at the same time I started doing work with professional athletes at the same time.
When I was in graduate school working on my doctoral degree, I had been studying hypnosis and working with some very interesting conditions and in a hospital with people who had really had some severe physical problems and I saw the power of the subconscious. So I’ve always been fascinated by that.
So in my clinical work, as you know we’re meeting now in La Jolla, I moved here from Minnesota a long time ago, and I’ve always worked in those two areas: helping people to heal emotionally and to even heal emotionally from physical problems and then also to be their best. So I have those two worlds of helping people achieve their highest levels and also to heal the problems in the way of being successful, happy, etc. And that had let me do write several books.
David Laroche: And you are doing so many great things. I saw you and Larry King, it’s amazing.
George J. Pratt: Thank you. It’s my pleasure. I have a blast. I look forward to every day. I’m not slowing down. If you’d say, “Are you ever going to retire?” I’d say, “No.”
David Laroche: Because you are doing what you love.
George J. Pratt: I am.
David Laroche: I would like to show your last book, right?
George J. Pratt: Yes.
David Laroche: I would love to—
George J. Pratt: It’s not my “last book”, it’s my most recent book.
David Laroche: OK. I would like to know what are the first step solutions to unlock your natural state of happiness. How to become happy?
George J. Pratt: That’s a very good question. What happens is sometimes people think if we get over our anxiety, our fears, our obvious big traumas in life, we’re going to be happy. It doesn’t happen. So you can fix the major things on your fixed list and still have a state of unhappiness or flatness.
What happens is, as we grow up, we have events in our lives that stick in our subconscious and that affect our feelings about ourselves. Usually from about ages 0 to 6 we absorb messages from our world and from our parents as not feeling worthy or safe and that sticks with us. From about 6 to 12 it’s a little bit less so. After 12 it’s a little bit less so again. But we’re like sponges, especially when we’re young.
So early events in our lives get stuck on our hard drive or subconscious; it’s called the subconscious and also the unconscious. Some many use them interchangeably.
So what happens is, let me give you an example of what we have in the book. We had a woman who had been incredibly successful, worth a hundreds of millions, lost most of it, had a little bit left and she came to La Jolla and she said with an attitude, “A couple of people referred me to you. So I saw the best psychiatrist in London, New York and San Francisco. So what makes you think you can help me?” I started laughing and I said, “I have no idea! Let’s see what we have.”
And there’s a tool that we call neuromuscular feedback. When you think of something that’s true or congruent, all your muscles are 5 to 15 % stronger. So I can take an interview and help identify these blocks, or you can also use this neuromuscular feedback technique.
So which I did in the first interview and I said, “I’m taking this history and I’m taking there’s some kind of block in here. You’re kind of self-sabotaging.” She had quite an attitude, as I said, and I was muscle-testing her and her arm turned firm at about age 7. I said, “Is there anything in particular that happened to you at age 7?” Her face changed and she said, “Oh my God! I just remembered this. When I was 7 I was helping my aunt move and for the first time in my life I got some money. She gave me a quarter for helping her move. And I was so thrilled and I was so excited to tell my mom and dad. We were at dinner that night, we had relatives over and I presented the quarter and I said, ‘Mom and Dad, this is the first money I’ve ever made.’ And I was humiliated and degraded in front of everyone for accepting money from a family member.”
It twisted her mind regarding money. She had a guilt regarding money. And so guilt seeks punishment subconsciously, so she would earn it and then sabotage the companies not intentionally. So we cleared that, I cleared that and some other things and I worked with her for a while. Anyway, what happened is she put her life back together and became more successful than she was before.
It’s not only just kind of one thing, obviously, but for her it was kind of like pulling a string and all of the negativity collapsed. So that was on her hard drive and you could’ve done traditional psychotherapy for her for decades and not gotten anywhere.
So sometimes these little things get stuck on your mind. Let me give you an example. You and I were just talking about my seminar at the big island of Hawaii swimming with dolphins. At the very first seminar there was a young lady who on the first day said, “I’ve got a little problem,” and I said, “Sure.” We were all in a group and she said, “I can't go in the water.” And so here we are at the seminar and I said, “Really?” She said, “I actually can't drink water out of a glass. I have a problem with water.” And she said, “I actually can't take a bath. I can only take a shower. I have such a fear of water.” And I thought, “Wow! This is kind of challenging with being at a seminar swimming with dolphins.”
So her dad was there. Because of how fast it could be the low muscle testing, and I said something about age 3 and she’s thinking and he’s thinking and he said, “I had her in the water and a wave came over her and it briefly submerged her.” When I treated her with rapid sensitization treatment, cleared her and the next day she went in the water, she was wearing flotation equipment, jumped off the boat, took off the flotation equipment. There was a swim guy to kind of teach her and she was a completely different person.
So this is like a rapid transformation when you have something kind of stuck in your hard drive like that. Now that is usually, you can have lots of other conditioning experiences. Those were isolated events, but if you think of the events that are blocking you from being your best, and you clear those, think about how great your life would be. So that’s what we do in the book, is teach people how to identify those blocks and correct them in a four-stage process that uses the subconscious mind, the conscious mind. We call that “the flee in the elephant”.
The flee is our conscious mind. The conscious mind is not going to get you very far just alone. The subconscious mind is an elephant. So if you think of a flee riding on an elephant. If the flee wants to go to the beach like this beautiful scene out on your window here, and the elephant wants to go inland, I don’t care how much the flee wants to go to the beach, you’re going inland. So the subconscious is what really creates our feeling state. So you have to be in concern, identify what’s going on and clear the blocks that are in there subconsciously.
The subconscious is one million times more powerful than the conscious mind. The number of neurons are fired per second at the subconscious level are 1 million times more than at the conscious level. And so it’s 1 million times faster and it’s 1 million times more powerful. Twenty to forty neurons firing per second at the conscious level, to 20 to 40 million neurons firing per second at the subconscious level, so why no use the full impact of the subconscious techniques to make rapid transformation. So that’s how I help people rapidly to accomplish their goals, including Larry King who wrote the intro of the book. He doesn’t do that.
David Laroche: I would like to understand what you are doing, when you are saying, “At the age of 3…” you test every age? How do you do that?
George J. Pratt: There’s a way to do it. So I’ll think, “OK…” This is actually based on something that I didn’t originally believe in. I thought, “It’s way too good to be true.” And actually it does exist and now there are clinical studies on this. Before my previous book came out, thankfully there was a large medical school study.
What happens is when you say something that’s true or congruent, all the muscles in your body are stronger than when you’re not. So if I was testing you and I was saying—the deltoid muscle is an easy one to check—so I would have you say, “OK, you name is David. If you’re properly aligned and there’s a way to align you, you would be strong on David, weak on someone else’s name.” So once establishing that, you have access to your subconscious like that to anything that has ever happened to you. So you can go back and identify, isolate, and then correct blocks that are in your way of success, health, happiness, etc. so it makes it seem really smart and we’re just using good strategies.
So what happens with medical school studies is they took a large group of medical students, hooked them up to computers and dynamometers and then looked at the breakaway factors. It’s the real deal, which is amazing. So it’s a wonderful tool, so we teach it on the… It’s on some of my videos, on my website, drgeorgepratt.com, and then codetojoy.com, where you can learn to do this. Then there are some training videos on there too.
David Laroche: Great. A lot of people who are following me have fears. How to overcome fears when you are alone for example?
George J. Pratt: Well, fear, if you think of the word “fear” in English, “False Evidence Appearing Real” and “Face Everything And Recover”. So that just puts in your mind that it’s possible to overcome this. It’s a condition response.
So again, you want tools to help clear that anxiety. You want to first—in the book we have people identify what the goal is. Let’s say it would be fear. Maybe it’s a general fear, maybe it’s an isolated fear. Do you have any fears?
David Laroche: I’m not sure if it’s a fear. I have sometimes the fear to not succeed or to succeed in too much time.
George J. Pratt: OK, so there are some, there might be some anxiety which you’re channeling for energy, for motivation, which is constructive.
Let’s say that you had a fear of going to the doctor because of, let’s say, your parents had a health crisis and you learned that if you go, you’re going to learn something bad. So if you have a fear of going to the doctor and you didn’t go for decades, that could be really hazardous to your health. You want to always get the best information that you have.
So sometimes energy from fear can motivate us, which it has for you, you’re working hard and you’re loving what you’re doing, you’re passionate. And so, what happens with fear, we have two basic parts of our central nervous system. We have one system that gears us up, the “fight, flight or freeze”, which is the sympathetic nervous system and then the parasympathetic nervous system that calms us down. Most of us run a little too much in the geared up and it’s hard to calm down. So the fears usually are associated with being turned up too high and then being in certain situations where we don’t feel confident.
So you isolate the problem, you identify the problem, for example in the book, then you prepare the body for a treatment. Let’s say we might do something like balanced breathing. When we get anxious we can almost have a short circuit electrically. What we do in the book is we have people, we use the bodies conscious and subconscious, then we use the biofield, which is the electricity within us. We are electrical. When we go to the hospital, we have EKGs, EEGs and actually that also creates some electrical effect, electromagnetic effects surrounding us, and so when you know that you can do some amazing things to help restore function rather rapidly.
A simple thing is to, let’s say, just put your left ankle over your right, your right hand over your left, which is also a 2,000 years old meditation interestingly. But this, I’m having people do this for a physics reason and you do a little breathing technique where your tongue touches the roof of your mouth as you’re breath in and relax the tongue as you exhale and you just think of a peaceful scene for two minutes. Now that’s very good in activating the part of the central nervous system that will calm the body. But it also is like a little battery recharger symbolically, and as I said, it also, it’s also very old meditation.
So that charges you up so that you can do some of these techniques. It helps the energy in your body symbolically become more coherent instead of scattered. So then we have people, we have identified whatever the problem is, the fear, you’ve charged up the body, you’ve done some of these other things. Then we have people apply a variety of tools of using the subconscious, of release, of clearing, of healing, of using the biofield, this energy system around us and we have about 8 different techniques of release.
You just imagine, which is what I did at the conference. And imagining release, hot air balloons, waterfalls and using the concepts that activate the subconscious. When you do that, the release is very powerful and profound and frequently permanent. Not always, but it can become a useful tool even if it’s not permanent. And then you do anchoring technique at the end to solidify the gains and that anchoring might be a cue, it might be a technique.
Let’s say if a person is working on enhancing success and they might have created a symbol of success. It might be attaining a certain goal or achieving let’s say with a car or a boat or it might be a money symbol or it might be some other positive symbol, we might have to meditate on it, activating the prefrontal cortex and the occipital part of the brain a couple times a day for about a minute. While they’re imaging this on an ongoing basis to achieve their goals, so they’re still in their consciousness but they’re working towards a goal on and on going basis. So it’s all clearly outlined in the book and there is something that is really nice that—let me just speak to this.
One thing that we know since we are electrical, we’ve known since Yale medical research in the 1940s that all living organisms have polarity, have a north and a south pole. The earth is positive, your feet are positive, the top of your head is negative. So when we get really stressed that can flip. And there is a simple correction that can be life changing and it’s activation of actually an acupressure point on the chest that it’s between the second and third rib. It’s in about this position here, a little higher. Yes. So it’ll be—just to be perfectionist, there we go—and flatten your finger and you’re gong to rub your hand clockwise and I want you to just think about whatever your goal is. Let’s say you were wanting—
David Laroche: I have.
George J. Pratt: OK, good. You just think about whatever the target is. Put your target in a healing basket, you’re rubbing that spot and let’s just five times you think, “I deeply accept myself. I deeply accept myself. I deeply accept myself. I deeply accept myself. I deeply accept myself. I deeply accept myself and I deeply accept myself.”
Feel a little bit better?
David Laroche: Yes, that’s great.
George J. Pratt: Yes. It’s quick and on a 0 to 10… Yes, technically for those medical inclined it’s between the second and third intercostals rib, midclavicular line. But you’re right on it. You’re perfect. It’s called the source spot. It’s in your bundle.
David Laroche: I have to tattoo it.
George J. Pratt: Many of my clients say, “I’m going to get a tattoo there.” And I say, “It won't help because you can't feel a tattoo,” but I did had a woman do that. But she had this little red freckle so you could tell.
It’s moderate pressure and it’s clockwise. You’re activating a nerve bundle called the neurolymphatic reflex, it’s part of your lymph system, but for some reason it restores polarity very rapidly. So if you just go through the day and little things bother you, you can just kind of stretch and pretend, “I’m just stretching,” and you’d be thinking, “I deeply accept myself.” And you’ll take the edge off of it.
David Laroche: Great. I love that.
George J. Pratt: Yes, it’s a nice tool.
David Laroche: You did an event just a few days ago about money. What do you think about money and how do you use neuroscience to help people to get more money? What do you do with that?
George J. Pratt: That’s a great question. What happens is kind of back to the subconscious beliefs. The major problems that people have with money are not making it. It’s believing that they are capable of or feeling worthy about it.
We have developed a method of identifying seven basic subconscious beliefs: “I’m safe, I’m worthy,” etc. And that people don’t really feel subconsciously that interfere with money. So I’ll give you an example.
There was a gentleman that I worked with recently whose parents loved him so much that they helped him get through school by doing his reports and his papers for him. And so he never developed a capability, nor the belief in himself, he didn’t think he was worthy and he felt guilty about his parents getting him through school. So what happened is he got a job in a financial field—I mean, he was a bright enough guy but he didn’t feel worthy—and he couldn’t function. He felt so bad about himself. He came in, we did a little work, turned things around, he’s back doing better than he has ever been.
So what happens is you feel blocked about achieving your goal. So these subconscious blocks are profound and unless you fix them, you’re going to struggle with them your whole life or they would limit the amount of money that you can make. What you can now outperform yourself self image, and what you think you are worth is not necessarily what you subconsciously think you’re worth. You might want to say, “I deserve to be making a couple of million a year or several hundred thousand.”
You have to look at your self esteem and what you think of. You can use muscle testing. In the book we have a checklist of things that might have happened to you so you can identify them going, you use the various processes, we’ve got lots of different techniques in there. Clear them so it’s like a fire hose. You don’t want a kit fire hose that just restricts the water flow to a very little bit, you want a free flowing so that all that energy is moving out there.
So some of the people, I don’t know in France if there is a—I was on a show called “Fantasy Factory” which is on MTV—there was somebody who was successful at one time kind of slid, wasn’t doing very well. I worked with him for a while and he became like the top in the world. Then he has talked about this and he still has two television shows on MTV at the same time and so I was in one of those.
Well, I worked on one of the episodes with his cousin who was sitting around staring at walls. So he said, “We’re going to go see George in La Jolla, California.” So he brought him down and became an episode and I worked with his subconscious beliefs and he didn’t feel worthy about some things, he didn’t feel safe. So I corrected the subconscious things. He went back and he just took off like a rocket from doing nothing, which is really amazing.
Rob Dyrdek was the name of the first-person drama. It was his cousin the person who I was talking about and this is on video, so it’s not confidential. So Rob said, when I talked to him I said, “Guess how much Drama made last year?” We shot the episode I think two years ago, something like that. He made 12 million dollars.
David Laroche: Wow!
George J. Pratt: Amazing! Amazing when your subconscious is in alignment with your goals. If your goals are up here and your subconscious is over here, you’re not going there.
David Laroche: I have a question because with Julie I tried one time to do that with her. I had some difficulties to…
George J. Pratt: Calibrate?
David Laroche: Yes, calibrate the difference and use—you were saying about alignment before.
George J. Pratt: Right. You have to be in alignment yourself and the other person has to be in alignment. Many times people are reversed. If it’s a significant issue, the person is probably reversed. Remember what I said, the polarity thing? So you both do that. But what I would is that first both do the balance breathing first, both of you for two minutes. Tongue up, breathe in, relax, tongue down, breath out. That’ll recharge you. Then do this where you’re both, your polarity is correct. Then try doing that. It’ll be much more successful.
David Laroche: Great!
George J. Pratt: Yes, you have to both be valid. You both have to be hooked up.
David Laroche: Do you have an exercise that people can do to break your belief in the subconscious mind?
George J. Pratt: Yes, there are so many. Let’s say a quick belief breaker. Give me an example.
David Laroche: Every rich people are bad, a subconscious belief like that.
George J. Pratt: Right. So a negative belief about that. Let’s say that you think money is bad or rich people are bad or, “I don’t want to hang out with them because they’re mean.” Well, that is a negative belief.
Let’s say, I’m going to give you just a quick tool to reduce that. Let’s say to start with do the balance breathing, do this, that will kind of align you and help you to see things a little more clearly. Then I’m going to use some of the previous book that I did to this one, “Instant Emotional Healing”, and that includes some tapping, sort of like EFT, but at a little deeper level. So let’s think about, and I want you to feel that negative belief.
First I would like to have you write out what you think about this. I want you to write it out on a piece of paper. Then I want you to go ahead and tap on the outside eyebrows, these is where real intense feelings are, that anger. I want you to just tap there and just think about how much you feel that. Tap there for about four minutes and then you’re going to find yourself much more relaxed.
Then probably the best thing to do is I want you to, if you can have somebody muscle test you and see what age the block is. And if you can't have somebody muscle test you, I want you to just if you could pull up the basic protocol from “Instant Emotional Healing” or the basic one from “Code to Joy” to do.
But to just go through another little one right now, let’s say, I want you to go ahead—you’ve tapped out here—I want you to think one of the most basic beliefs subconsciously is not trusting yourself. So let’s just go ahead and do that right now. Let’s pretend, David, that you have this belief.
David Laroche: Yes.
George J. Pratt: Money is bad, wealthy people are bad. So it represents a little block. So let’s go ahead and imagine a healing basket. We got this block in there. We’ve already done this setup with these things. We’ve tapped out here for several minutes. So we’re going to run the spot here, just close your eyes and we’re going to go ahead and just think about the problem and just think, and just let in your mind. I’m going to take you through this.
We’re going to clear little subconscious blocks preventing the positive belief that you want. So lets just go ahead and just think, “I trust myself,” you’re thinking about the goal, this block over here. “I trust myself. I trust myself. I trust myself. I trust myself. I deserve to trust myself. I deserve to trust myself. I deserve to trust myself.” Overdoing is clearing the negative belief that I don’t trust myself. And we’re clearing that so we can trust ourselves so we can see more clearly because we’ve learned some negative association to this.
I just think, “I deserve to trust myself. I deserve to trust myself and I deserve to trust myself.” Then, “I allow myself to trust myself. I allow myself to trust myself. I allow myself to trust myself. I allow myself to trust myself. I allow myself to trust myself. I allow myself to trust myself and I allow myself to trust myself.”
OK, does that feel a little bit better?
David Laroche: Yes, it’s cool. I loved that.
George J. Pratt: Yes, and so let’s go ahead and we’re going to—and this is really shortened version because it has a lot of different steps because you want to clear all of these things—just know that everything is possible. That’s a nice thing. So just for a moment put your hand over there, forehand on the back of the head. What we’re doing possibly is increasing blood flow to the parts of our brain that involve judgment and clarity and activating parts of the brain, as you know Mark Wallman, at the visual centers with the occipital part of the brain. I want you to close your eyes and I want you to see yourself liking money, liking people that are wealthy and interacting with them in a constructive way and you becoming wealthy and helping others.
So they have the opportunity to help the planet and if you were wealthy, you could help others. And there’s nothing that helps people feel better and healthier than helping other humans beings, that helps people to feel healthier, happier, more joyful. So just see yourself happier and healthier, more joyful and just see yourself with those attributes. Just a little demonstration.
David Laroche: It’s great.
George J. Pratt: Yes. So what we’re doing is just we’re breaking all patterns, creating new ones. But we can do so very rapidly. What would take us 20 years can take us 20 minutes.
David Laroche: Cool. I love that.

David Laroche: According to you, what could be the key factors of success?
George J. Pratt: Positive beliefs in yourself, clearing your subconscious of negative events growing up. And it’s not the events, it’s your perception of the events so that you translate it and modify it and use it to strengthen and empower you.
It doesn’t matter what’s happened to you because you can modify it and strengthen yourself and create success. And use the newest techniques of using the subconscious and the conscious minds working together, including with body’s biofield, the electrical system.
David Laroche: Great. I would love to have a short testimonial from you. Do you prefer I ask you something or I can let you say something about me? I’m David Laroche.

David Laroche: OK. It’s the best way. What do you think about David Laroche?
George J. Pratt: I think David Laroche is one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. I just met him today but I heard rave reviews and even though the meeting was a little challenging to schedule—this is the crack of dawn in La Jolla—and I had to move some mountains to make this happen. The people that I spoke to said, “This person has a view of the world for the future, George. This is your kind of person. Change your schedule. I don’t care what it takes. Go and meet with him. He’s your kind of person.” And you know what? He is. So David and I are going to become friends, we already are, and I’m just delighted to meet him. He has such a wonderful personality and a view and a kindness and a desire for the human condition to improve. He is my kind of guy. I’m delighted to meet you David.
